Novice Rep, DS, House League
Submitted By John Wilson on Thursday, June 13, 2019
Andrew (HL VP)  and I went to the OWHA Spring AGM.   Lots of discussion about the Novice program. Here are the highlights I got from it

Novice House League the same as we did this year except all helpers on the ice needs to have their coach certification including police check.

No Novice DS teams are permitted

Rep hockey-Llfhl probably not running Novice as they wanted playoffs and that isn’t happening. Owha will work on a schedule with us, they are going to work on over the summer

Up to Jan 15 half ice games only, they suggest teams of 18 girls so it can be 2 teams of 9 playing cross ice 4x4 hockey.  Eg Whitby comes and plays us with 2 games at the same time in the split ice

Jan15 can go to full ice if you feel the talent is ready for  it

Possibly No keeping score ( yes in rep also) If a goal is scored the puck is thrown into the corner and play continues

If a penalty the player sits out their next shift but the teams play at full strength. Refs are optional could be handled by a coach

-7 and 8 year olds can play together

No playoff games-Tournaments are more of something called a Jamboree where everybody plays the same number of games with no Jamboree winner

Someone asked the difference between Rep and a House League team that travels.  The difference is the talent of the girls in the Novice Rep and the number of practices would be higher, but no difference in game setup.

Going forward tryouts for Novice Rep have to be in September. This year it was ok for spring tryouts

The new Novice rep appears to me to be very similar to novice DS team with all exhibition games and no keeping stats.

More to come out over the summer about the scheduling of half ice and full ice games
